This is it, the first full week of summer, and most of the country feels like it’s on fire. It’s only June and we’ve been in the nineties here in Michigan. Despite the weather being unbearably hot, my writing endeavors have been even hotter!
I am excited to announce my essay about climbing Diamond Head in Hawaii is live in the My Turn section of the Newsweek website. You can’t see me, but I’m doing the happy dance next to my desk right now.
You can read it right now at this link: I Had a Heart Transplant and a Stroke—Then Set Myself a Huge Challenge - Newsweek
I’ve been working on this essay for a while, getting rejected by a few lit mags. But now it has found a home! This tells the story of my recovery from heart transplant surgery and multiple complications, going from learning to walk to climbing a mountain.
I hope this helps you realize what a miracle organ transplantation truly is. If you are interested in being an organ donor, you can register here: Sign Up To Be An Organ Donor | organdonor.gov
I hope you enjoyed reading this piece as much as I enjoyed writing it. Stay tuned. There is more to come!
Now go out there and conquer the world!
Congratulations! 🎉 🎉 I'm excited to go read your article.
Oh my gosh this is wonderful! So happy for you for so many reasons! Newsweek! What a win times a bunch!
