Four Resources for Building an Author Platform
Recently, I’ve been taking a deep dive into the world of platform building for authors, and I’ve rounded up some of the resources I found here for you! Worth a mention: Each of the creators of these resources is selling a service related to the information below. I have not used their services and cannot speak to the level of quality of those services, but the data linked below is free and I found it educational.

First up, we have a recent Substack post by Publishing Confidential.
Are Debut Novels Really Failing to Launch? (Good overview of the publishing industry, building a platform, and audience engagement).
Next up is a series of six posts by Award winning author Lisa Cooper Ellison about her quest to build an author platform. I’ve read a couple and found them to be immensely informative.

This linked video by Louisa Deasy is two years old, so you can’t sign up for the class she is mentioning, but the information in the video is still relevant. She talks about the 3 biggest mistakes you can make on your author website. I kind of felt called out because I’ve done them all. Oops!

Jane Friedman has 50 different posts regarding social media and ways they can be used to grow your author platform or derail yourself in the process. I have not yet had the opportunity to read through all of them, so I can’t tell you which ones are best. I will let that be an individual decision.
