Today is Tuesday, July 1st, and the fourth of July is this Friday. Senate and Congress are working around the clock to ram through the “Big Beautiful Bill” that reads like a billionaire kleptocracy wishlist to transfer billions of dollars from the pockets of ordinary American citizens into the already overstuffed pockets of the uber wealthy.
One of the most brutal aspects of the bill, of which there are many, is the proposed cuts to Medicaid. This is the health insurance of last resort which covers the most indigent among us. They are the most vulnerable, and they are the ones who stand to be hurt - or even killed - by these cuts.
17 Million Americans Will Lose Their Health Care
You might think to yourself, “So what if they lose their Medicaid? I have private health insurance through my employer. Maybe those losers should get a job like mine.”

That’s all well and good for you, but you still won’t be safe. Hospitals set their budgets on projected income. If they suddenly lose billions of dollars in Medicare revenue, they will react with layoffs and closures. Even if you have the best insurance money can buy, it won’t protect you from watching your local hospital or you family doctor close their doors. You might have to drive quite a way to obtain medical care at a facility that is still open, and you might have to get on a waiting list to be seen by the few practitioners who still accept new patients.

12:15 Update and New Action Items:
As of 12:15, the New York Times updated their story to show that the bill did pass the Senate with a tie of 50/50 broken by JD Vance. This means the bill will now be returned to Congress. The next step will be to contact our Congressional Representatives.
First, find out who your representative is if you don’t know. This website will allow you to enter your zip code and find your rep:
Find Your Representative | house.gov
Call them as well as sending an email. Below is the text I sent to my rep. Please take a second to look online and see the statistics for your County to add to your email to add a personal touch and possibly get their attention.
Dear Representative X,
I am urging you to vote your conscience on the "Big Beautiful Bill" currently before the senate and soon to return to the House. Millions of Americans will lose their healthcare, and the rest of our country's citizens will feel the backlash of hospital closures and medical personnel layoffs caused by this dramatic cut to the health reimbursement system that is built into the way hospitals set their budgets.
This will impact every American citizen in a negative way to put a few more dollars in the pockets of billionaires.
1 in 4 residents of X County receive Medicaid. 36% of those enrolled are children. Do you intend to vote to rip healthcare access away from a quarter of your constituents?
For the love of your fellow citizens, please vote NO on this bill.
Thank you for your support. I don’t mean to overwhelm you with political posts, but this is an urgent matter.
Love to all of you!
Dawn
Many of my posts have been political since November, and I'm happy to read yours. I'll be contacting my very Republican Congressman tomorrow (he's probably getting tired of me). It's possible Ohio Medicaid recipients will lose coverage completely because of the state budget our governor signed into law yesterday plus this heinous federal budget.
Thank you for staying fierce. I'm trying, but gosh I'm tired. This all makes me feel quite old. It's never been this bad in my lifetime.
Thank you again Dawn. I hope people listen and flood the phone lines tomorrow. Too many people don’t care because they think it’s just those “other” people who will be impacted.
we need to make them understand this will impact everyone.
