Valentine in Blue

My husband knows I don’t really get into the Hallmark holiday of Valentine’s Day. Boxed chocolates and flowers don’t get me excited. I don’t have a sweet tooth and flowers die. But he knows what I do like. During our vacation in Hawaii, we visited the Byodo-In Temple on Oahu, and he bought me this lovely journal, then he bought this handmade pen made with Kao wood and surfboard resin from a local artisan.

I find it to be far more beautiful than jewelry I will rarely wear, and I’ve already scribbled the rough draft of three poems in those pages. Every time I use this, it will be a lovely reminder of our dream vacation.

Beauty is all around us, and it is truly unique to the eye of each beholder.
