Best wishes to you and your father. What a mess our healthcare system is. And as a Veteran, your father should be getting the best and complete care, not glossed over and dismissed.
Hoping you get better answers. Dealing with a broken and overwhelmed VA both here in rural VA land, and in urban Florida I hope that you know that you can get his VA medical records printed out and have them available to share with civilian doctors. Also each time he is admitted you have 72 hours to notify them so they will pay the bill. They are moving all older veterans to aging in place home care so short staffed they are definitely not doing anything more than they have to. Glad he has an advocate because you are right about your observations.
I think you might be right about the unconcious reaction to patients with no or very few visitors. Sad state of affairs. Wish you and you dad all the best.
I can affirm what you’re saying. During my father’s last month of life, we kept round-the-clock vigil at his bedside (my mom, my sister, and I took shifts—sometimes up to 32 hours). It was palpable that the nursing staff noticed our devotion and vigilance. I also noticed those rooms with no visitors, so quiet. Every specialty in the hospital came to poke at my dad and get their department’s check boxes ticked. Toward the end, according to my dad’s wishes… we said STOP. No more invasive procedures. I also requested his full set of records. Prayers for your loved one!

Yes, he mentioned that they are coming in his room a lot more now that I'm there. Maybe because I ask a lot of questions.
Wishing you strength <3
