Life is so important. I signed up years ago to be a donor but all of my organs are most likely really messed up. Do you know if they do tests before allowing that sort of thing? I've been on some STRONG anti-convulsants up to 3 times a day when I was younger. Who knows what it has done to my organs, but I hope that I have at least ONE that can be used. Afterall, it can save a life! *GRINS* STILL, do you know if they can make SURE my organs would be ok before doing that? Not that I'm dead yet or anything but still. I'm so glad that you got the heart you needed! That's amazing!
Yes, they do extensive testing before they approve an organ for transplant. Despite your reservations, it's best to register as a donor and let the doctors make the decision. Even if your organs are not usable, cornea and tissue can still be used to help the blind to see again or help burn victims receive skin grafts or people requiring ligaments or tendon repair. There are so many parts of all of us that are still usable to improve the quality of life for hundreds of people.
Thank you. I think it's important to give people representation of transplant recipients who are living full lives. There are good days and bad days, but I think the good days are totally worth it. I see by your user name that you have a vested interest in heart transplant issues. You are who I'm writing for.
