Thank you, Dawn. This is the nuts and bolts of how we work as a community and a country.

Call me a Socialist, idk.

A great lady once said to me, “I wish for you what you wish for others”.

We need each other. No doubt.

Heather Cox Richardson does a great job explaining how the word "socialism" became associated with negative connotations. It goes back to the post-Civil War era. In reality, no person is an island. We all rely on each other for survival.

Thank you for sharing this Dawn! It's so important to help people feel empowered to make a difference. Calls and emails work. Public pressure works. Keep it up!

Elected officials will listen if they remember that they are elected and can be un-elected.

Yes I agree… it feels like some are assuming there will not be future elections. Their decisions are that appalling!

I choose not to obey in advance.

This is very politically astute; we all need to perform at least one act to resist these horrible people every day.

Now that my voice has returned, I'm making phone calls. Previously, I sent emaiils, but I'm not sure if those have the same impact.

Thanks for this. I started calling my reps regularly and this is a worthwhile issue.

Good job! I got an email reply that seemed to miss the point of my call. I think it was a canned response. I will reiterate my position in the morning. Sooner or later, they will understand what I'm saying. I just need to repeat myself.

What a great post. I am part of the MAKA movement, which means Make America Kind Again. We cannot underestimate how we are all interconnected. To paraphrase John Dunne, "Each man's (and woman's) death diminishes me, For I am involved in mankind. Therefore, send not to know. For whom the bell tolls, It tolls for thee."

OMG! A John Dunne fan! One of the all-time great poets.

If only we could Make America Kind Again. Or for the first time. One could argue that American has never been truly kind with her history against indigenous people, slavery, Jim Crow, women's rights, civil rights, etc. But I think we could become kinder than in the past.

I totally agree! I wrote a few poems about Trump and his policies and I stepped on a few toes! I also tried to talk to my nephew about Trump's policies but all I got was yelled at and a lecture! Trump is making things worse, not better! I don't trust him when he says he won't touch SS, Medicaid or Medicare! I receive all three! Trump declared himself King! He is the King of idiots! Perhaps it's time for a revolution! But by writing or another Boston Tea Party! Trump is delusional and dangerous to our freedoms! Many people support his policies! But not me or my friends!

Sometimes toes get stepped on because they shouldn't have been there in the first place. Don't feel bad for being kind and caring about others. Sooner or later, we all need to rely on others, even if we don't think so right now.
