We spent last week in Iceland, where I adapted easily to the cold and to their 5 hrs of daylight. I typically detest the cold, but this was lovely—I slowed down, ate well, followed the rhythm of near-Arctic days despite our only truly dry and sunny day being the day we left. It was a glorious, restful, yet invigorating week! Did not look forward to our return stateside, but now we’re here so we have to make the best of it. All that to say that you are definitely not alone. We all have and are kindred souls. Bless-bless, as the Icelanders say.
Did you see the northern lights? I think maybe the change of culture and scenery would be invigorating. We're going to Nashville in a couple of weeks for my heart transplant clinic. It's a regular checkup. But it should be warmer there, and we can enjoy a couple days doing something entertaining.
We did! Cool to watch them shift in the sky right above us! The change was definitely nice, though like many cities, no one in Reykjavík makes eye contact unless they already know you or have reason to interact directly, but it was nice to be in a walkable place, even though we took the public buses to get to those areas. Most invigorating? Excursions along the south coast with 80-100(?) of our closest strangers, where we walked in mist, rain, knock-you-over winds, and finally gorgeous snow at dusk. I felt nature over several hours and up-close and personal for the first time in years and it was beautifully grounding! I highly recommend! My primary is working toward a CFS diagnosis yet I was so energetic in that clean air! That said, I truly wish you a respite in Nashville! Enjoy the warmth🤞

I admit to be fond of this melancholy time of year. Keeps me centered in my werid way. Beautiful message as you are.
The sun is out today, and the snow is glistening like frosting on a cake. But I'm not inspired to go outside and play in it.
a lyrical and lovely look at the bleakness of January
This year we have the bleakness compounded by the existential dread of executive orders.
